Planting & Care
1. Planting: Your tree should be planted in a sunny spot (6 to 8 hours of sun per day) with well-drained soil.
After you’ve selected your location, dig a hole that’s at least two to three times wider than your tree’s root ball. Once you’ve placed the tree, backfill its soil, tamp down to avoid air pockets, and lastly, water to help establish its roots.
2. Watering: Water your tree regularly (approximately one thorough watering each week) to maintain soil moisture.
If you’re not sure when to water, or how much to water, simply check the Japanese Umbrella Pine’s surrounding soil, down to around 2 or 3 inches. If you feel dry soil, it’s time to water to moistness but not oversaturation.
3. Pruning: Pruning is only necessary to remove dead or damaged branches.
