A Gorgeous and Fragrant Climber!
Your outside walls and fences have a tired, drab look. You need some color to bring them alive. The Peaches and Cream Honeysuckle Vine (Lonicera Periclymenum) will transform your structures into natural wonders. Bicolors of pink and white flowers will turn heads and give you privacy without the man-made look.
Landscaping Marvel
The addition of the Peaches and Cream Honeysuckle will transform your garden into a wildlife sanctuary. The nectar rich flowers draw droves of butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds. Once the red and purple berries set in summer, flocks of birds will gather to enjoy the fruits. The blooms last from spring through late summer. The tubular shapes will sometimes flare into five lobes. Blossoms will deepen into richer colors of pink, white, and magenta. You’ll savor every passing breeze thanks to an amazingly fragrant smell. Meanwhile, you can watch your vine crawl up arbors, cascade down rock walls, and even provide beauty on a steep bank.
Healthy Growth, Small Needs
This dwarf variety of this vine can grow upwards of 10 feet with a spread of 3-4 feet. It has a hardy life cycle, living up to 20 years in ideal environments. The compact nature of the vine allows simple trellising from fences and other landscape structures.. The plant retains shape easily and will not take over the garden. Full sun is ideal (although partial shade is fine), and it can handle even the worst drought, heat, or humidity. The Honeysuckle is mildew resistant and is typically pest and disease free. Zones 4-9 are the best growing climates. Prune the plant several times during the first growing season for effective upright growth. The vine grows in all types of soils as long as it has consistent watering. Simply deadhead the flowers in the late spring and summer, and the plant will reward you with more showy flowers.
The Peaches and Cream’s evergreen status in the lower South allows privacy even in the off season. More northern climates will see the leaves drop. Prune in late winter once extreme cold passes.
