Planting & Care

Planting: Choose an area in your yard that receives full sun, at least six hours per day. As long as your soil is well-draining, your Kniphofia will be happy. When planting, add a two- to three-inch layer of compost. 

Watering: This plant loves heat and dryness, though it appreciates adequate watering when flowering. 

Fertilizing: In spring, add a balanced, organic fertilizer.

Pruning: Trim your Red Hot Poker’s leaves in the spring to stimulate growth. In colder places, tie up the foliage above the crown of the plant to prevent water accumulation and deadly freezing.
